Ammonia Storage Retrofit for a Chemical Distributor
A retrofit that replaced ageing ammonia vessels without pausing the client's live distribution schedule.
Client
European chemical distribution group
Location
Rotterdam, Netherlands
Solution
Pressure Vessels
Scale
Mid scale
Challenge
Ageing pressure vessels were approaching end-of-life, but the client's distribution schedule left no room for extended downtime during replacement.
Context
The facility operates on a dense industrial estate with strict permitting timelines and PED compliance requirements specific to the EU.
Engineering Approach
BTV sequenced vessel replacement around the client's dispatch calendar, staging new ASME/PED-certified vessels for install during planned maintenance windows.
Solution
PED 2014/68/EU and ASME 'U' certified pressure vessels, sized to match existing footprint and tied into the client's current transfer piping.
Execution
Vessels were fabricated and hydrotested off-site, then installed and commissioned in a compressed on-site window to minimise disruption.

Results that held up
- 01
Zero unplanned downtime during the replacement window
- 02
Full PED and ASME certification carried through to commissioning
- 03
Extended service life against the client's original vessel specification
